  • Typhoon Sendong is one of the most fatal tropical storm that struck the Philippine country in the last 12 years.
  • It is now considered  as the most deadly among the storms here in the Philippines this year 2011.
  • It is even a more serious and deadly typhoon compared to that of the Typhoon Ondoy which occurred 2 years ago.  This is based on the information given by the Philippine National Red Cross about its death tolls in which Typhoon Ondoy has a record of 464 deaths while Typhoon Sendong has 652 deaths which is still expected to rise.
  • Sendong is the 6th typhoon among the tropical storms that have passed the country since the year 2000 which have incurred a large number of deaths.
  • According to the data from NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) through the GMA News Research, as of December 21, 2011, Typhoon Sendong has destroyed 1,010 lives already.
  • 65, 608 families or 502, 599 individuals were involved by the destruction of Typhoon Sendong.
  • Major Cities which were greatly troubled by Typhoon Sendong were the Cagayan de Oro City and the Iligan City in Mindanao.
  • Both cities were really unprepared during the typhoon Sendong attack since they are hardly ever hit by storms with this kind of intensity.
  • Despite the announcements and advisories of the National Government and the Local Governments, many people in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan city still died, a lot are missing, and some are severely injured.
  • Dead bodies of Filipinos are buried like garbage due to the fact that the city of Cagayan de Oro city and Iligan city didn’t have water and electricity supply for a couple of days and that, it is very much risky and unhealthy for the community if they would not bury the dead bodies immediately.  Since people died out of being drowned with not just water but mostly of mud, the corpses would easily decompose which could be a source of illness for the survivors of typhoon Sendong.
  • Bodies of dead people are piled one after the other.
  • Funeral homes can no longer accommodate more cadavers and so, many are buried at the same time and location, a mass burial was agreed by many.
  • The Iligan task force armies were sent out to the affected areas to create and build coffins for the dead bodies.
  • The National Bureau of Investigation of NBI Forensics are also sent out to different Sendong affected areas to do the recognition of the dead bodies through the cadaver's distinctive features like dentures, or tattoos.
  • Infrastructures, various different facilities, agriculture, and a lot of homes are damaged and even flushed by typhoon Sendong.
  • Today, the agency said that there are a total of 44,213 number of evacuees are staying at 60 evacuation centres and majority of them are from Cagayan de Oro city and the other 232,187 people are staying anywhere outside the evacuation centres.
  • 14, 520 houses were severely damaged and even washed out by typhoon Sendong according to the NDRRMC.
  • The President of the Philippines, President Benigno Aquino sent out investigators to check if flash floods and landslides are greatly caused by illegal logging.
  • Health officials along with some volunteers are also ordered to mobilize medicines to those victims of typhoon Sendong.  Their trying to prevent cross contamination of illnesses between evacuees at the evacuation centres and even outside of it.
  • Disaster reliefs are already started by the ABS CBN Foundation through its “Sagip Kapamilya” program.  Many of the “Kapamilya” stars and ABS CBN staffs are sent out to pack and distribute relief goods for the relief operations.
  • ABS CBN International Foundation teamed up with the Filipino-American organizations and associations with regards to the emergency needs, shelters, and health issues of the victims.
