Iligan City is known in the Philippines as the “City of Waterfalls.” For many years, the city has been known for being home to the majestic Maria Christina Falls. Today, another tourist attraction in the city has grown popular throughout the country – Tinago Falls. The awe-inspiring spot is located in Buru-un, Brgy. Ditucalan, Iligan City.
The name ‘Tinago’ was derived from the Filipino word which means ‘hidden.’ The fascinating attraction is indeed hidden. Cloaked in a deep ravine, the waterfall features a main waterfall and several smaller ones. Its cascading cold, cold waters which fall beautifully into a calm pool is about 240 feet high.
Reaching Tinago Falls however requires you to be in good physical condition as you still have to descend on a 500-step winding staircase. Nevertheless, the efforts of the trekker pay off at his/her first sight of the attraction. The magnificent waterfall is a unique sight that any first-time tourist has certainly never seen.
Tinago Falls is a place of unmatched fun and satisfaction. It has a small cave under the cascading waters where visitors can stay and listen to the sound of nature’s rumbling. The man-made swimming pools for children are also perfect for family enjoyment. And of course, the foot of the falls is where every tourist can experience the cold waters from above.
Our daily routine brings us nothing but stress, exhaustion, boredom, and emptiness. At times we seek things beyond money to satisfy not just our body or mind but our soul as well. Tinago Falls is a soul sanctuary as its tranquil splendor takes us to a peaceful state that is experienced only by the divine.
