Coron is found in the northernmost tip of Palawan province.  What sets it apart from the rest of Palawan is not just the sea, but it’s not as commercialized as the other parts of the region.  At one point, we got stuck in sea when our boat’s motor died and we couldn’t even make a call via cellular phone because where we were was a dead spot.  There also are resorts without electricity and relies on power generators.

But other than those slight inconveniences, Coron is a wonderful place to visit.  And yes, there are resorts that offer full amenities so whether you want to rough it or need some good pampering, you have options.

To get to Coron, you’d have to catch a domestic flight from Manila to Busuanga.  And from there, you can opt to get your own tour through the local folks / resorts or stage your own tour yourself.

1.    Diving

If you’re a diver, then you’re in for a treat!  Coron is a diver’s paradise.  In WWII this has been the sight of a lot of fights so the ocean is littered with Japanese gunboat ships.  Resorts offer diving lessons and diving adventure.  So get those fins ready to explore the shipwrecks!

2.    Treasure Island

Get a treat swimming in the untouched white beach. Owned by Coral Bay Resort and Divelink, you can have the whole island to yourselves.  The fine grain sand and the clear blue waters will make it difficult for you to leave. 

3.    Tapyas Hill

Not everyone is game for this tour but if you want to see whole the Divingfrom way up, you have got to visit Mt. Tapyas.  On top the mountain, a cross stands erect made up of metal trusses.  The pilgrimage up is 762 steps high but the view is worth it!

4.    Maquinit Health Springs

From Tapyas Hill, you can head directly to Maquinit Health Springs by the local transportation, a tricycle.  Soak in the natural hot springs and relax.  Locals say that the waters are therapeutic.

5.    Siete Pecados or 7 Islets

Take out your kayak and your snorkel and you are in for a display of Coron’s miles and miles of beautiful corals.  You don’t even need to get in the water to see these sea treasures. 

6.    Black Mountain and Twin Lagoon

The Black Mountain got its color from the abundance of limestone.  You can kayak through the mountain and behold! The Twin Lagoon!  To get in, you’d have to kayak your way beneath a low entrance.  You literally have to lie down on your kayak to get in lest you hit your head on the limestone.  Tourists love to swim in these waters because the surface water may be cold but below, the water is exquisitely warm!  This is so because this is where the sea water and fresh water meets, and not only that, the water “looks” oily too.

If you haven’t gotten enough of swimming, you can also go to the other side of the mountain and enjoy the beach.  Like most of the beaches in Coron, white sand abounds the island.  This beach is taken cared of the Tagbanua tribe.

Not just another stretch of a powdery white sand beach. It has its share of beauty in common with the other amazing beaches in the Philippines, but it has its own beauty to unravel as well. Dakak Beach in Mindanao. The tremendous diving sites of garden coral reefs with perfect blue waters encircling this place.

It is a place of a tropical island ranging 15 hectares wide, instilled in green land and a 750 meter of a secluded white sand beach. Surrounded by mountains on the east side where the shore of Dakak is facing the Sulu Sea, thus being surrounded by other islands to avoid the typhoon belt making the beach of Dakak ideal for a vacation the whole year round.

Found in Zamboanga del Norte, Dakak Beach is a natural attraction, it is very popular in the place where you can see the beautifully shaped cove from afar.

From Manila, one would take a 2 hour flight to Dipolog.

Dakak has clean blue waters where you can dive to your hearts content, and the place is surrounded by flowers and coconut palms making a very rustic tropical island paradise.

The area of Coral Reefs that is famous in Dakak would be in the “Liuay Rock” where soft corals live and the indifferent nudibranchs and unusual kinds of starfish resides in.

The other places would be the caves 60 degrees deep and the with sandy bottoms that are occupied with water where soldier fish, sea plumes and puffer fishes live in. Black coral also reside in these caves.

Ceasar’s Reef

A small reef area with coral covers. The place is rich with big fishes that live in the place of marine life that usually comes in bright colors. Parrot fishes also live in this place. This place is advised for experienced divers only who can handle a couple of indifferent and big fishes in the undertaking.
