Are you planning a pilgrimage during Holy Week? Why don’t you try to take your journey begin at El Salvador Misamis Oriental where the 50 foot statue of the Divine Mercy was located. This is a perfect place for you to have reflections and ask repentance from God…it will just take 30 minutes ride from Cagayan de Oro City. This awesome shrine is located at the Divine Mercy Hills overlooking Macajalar Bay.

I’ve been there last December of 2008 with my family. The shrine is said to be miraculous. When we stepped down from our vehicle, a lot of people offered big candles in different colors for 25 pesos only. Those candles have different meanings. Green candle symbolizes for good health, white for peace, red for love of God and yellow for your wish.

As a pilgrimage and sacred site, visitors are not allowed to wear shorts and other revealing clothing. Many of the believers visit the shrine asking for his mercy because they believed that God will pour out his mercy towards them after approaching him. It is an ideal place for repentance because you can have a one on one encounter of God inside the chapel that seems so real! People are always coming back to visit the shrine because of the holy water which is believed to cure the illness of the sick and heal the soul. You’ll be enjoying in watching the perfect sunset in an orange-purple horizon and be fascinated with the rays of light of the Divine Mercy during at night; it seems that God extends his love and forgiveness to the city. The Divine Mercy devotion is calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s love is unlimited and available to everyone — especially the greatest sinners.

When you are interested coming in the shrine, try not to forget your own foods and snacks because there is no store up the hill.It is so nice also going there during sunrise and sunset because its to hot especially in the afternoon. Though it is windy but you can’t stay a lot longer under the sun-scorched skin. Bring umbrellas and other things that will keep you hide from the sun.
