1) Katipunan Road
Katipunan Road is one of the best gimik hotspots if only because of its location. The road is lined up by a couple of schools and colleges and its proximity makes it ideal for going out for those who are from these schools. Ateneo de Manila University, the premere private school in the Philippines and University of the Philippines, the premiere State University are located right alongside this Road that entrepreneurs have taken advantage of this fact by putting up numerous restaurants, coffee shops and bars right on the opposite side.
The latest thing that has been put up along this road is the Petron gas station turned gimik hot spot right beside Miriam College. It is very accessible for the dormers around the area and offers a variety of restaurants to choose from. MagNet is one of those places that offer a good number of things from food to live band performances. Katipunan Road is an accidental gimik hot spot but people really have taken advantage of this piece of luck.
2) Brick Road
While Brick Road isn’t as glamorous as its other counterparts, it still a good place for a gimik. This is especially true if you want to avoid the big crowds that the other gimik hot spots have. Brick Road is located inside the Sta. Lucia complex in Cainta, Rizal and this makes it very convenient for gimik goers. Beside Sta. Lucia Mall is Robinson’s Metro East Pasig Mall and therefore, one can go out and see a movie first if they want to and then go to the bars along inside the area. Parking isn’t a problem since it’s outside a mall and the mall parking lot also serves as its parking lot.
The slight drawback is that the crowd isn’t as high class as the ones in the other destinations I have so far discussed. This is pretty far from the business districts and far from the exclusive subdivisions as well. These days however, if you’re not looking to see or be seen, Brickroad may offer the perfect quiet little hot spot for you.
Marikina is known as the shoe capital of the Philippines as the country’s shoemaking industry is centered here. It has been known to produce top quality shoes but it also is a good place to have a good round of booze. Marikina Riverbanks used to be a factory that has now been transformed into a commercial center with a mall in the middle of it. At night, the bars alongside it come to life and attract many kinds of people who are there mainly to get smashed with beer.
Along the banks of the river about ten minutes away from Riverbanks is another area where drinking is the name of the game. It is right along the River and it has bars named PapaJeks and Okavango which have become like a drinking institution in Marikina. The allure of the place increases as rain pours in. The water rises to such a high level that it covers not only the parking lot of the bars but nearly half the restobars themselves. This is why when you’re parked there and it’s raining, watch out for the river water level. You never know when your car starts to become a submarine. That would truly put a damper on your gimik.
