Makiling

(formerly Makiling Ensemble)

History

Makiling was formed by five high school buddies back in December of 1997. Diwa, Otto, Dave, Evan and Wed all met and were classmates at the Philippine High School for the

arts in Mt. Makiling. After finishing high school in summer of 1997, fate put them all together once again as college students at the University of the Philippines in Diliman

and Makiling was formed.

Makiling performs mostly original music in all of their shows. They also throw in a cover song or two from time to time, but they always make it a point to highlight their originals as this is their identity.

Influences

The musical influences of Makiling range from the ethnic to classical, pop to jazz, hiphop to Celtic and so much more. In other words, Makiling has something to learn in all the

musical genres that exist today.

Namesake

For the longest time, Makiling was also known as Makiling Ensemble. Today, the band has decided to drop the word “Ensemble” to make the name simpler and easier to remember.

Shows

Makiling has peformed in numerous shows and countless occassions both locally and abroad. Ranging from bars to cultural events, to birthday parties and corporate

gatherings, Makiling brought their own brand of music where ever they play.

Management

As of today, Makiling is a self-managed band. All bookings, negotiations, and discussions with clients are handled by the band itself.
