A wingspan that can range as wide as 8 feet. The tallest amongst the birds all over the world. It ranked second to the biggest next to Harpy Eagle that can be found in South and Central America but the basis only is in regards to how heavy they are. The Philippine eagle being 8 kgs and Harpy which is 9 kgs. However, although with smaller feet and legs in comparison to the Harpy eagle, the Philippine eagle stands the tallest.

This was called the king of birds as people who witnessed a Philippine eagle spread its wings leaves the audiences in awe with mouths open. Landing on a branch and staring with its fierce look, making its stand in glory soaring across the skies as a true king of the bird kingdom.

It its rareness, studies by Filipino biologist had led to the conclusion that out of 1,700 islands of the Philippines Archipelago, there are only four islands where the Philippine eagle can be found. Making the said bird to be extinct. This fact has alarmed many and reasons began elevating making deforestation the major cause of this bird’s decline in breed. An explanation has it that destroying where the Philippine Eagle lives in destroys the eagles as well. From 94% of lush tropical forests covering the Philippine islands, it has diminished for as much as more than 55% percent over the years. Losing around 170,000 of lush forests yearly.

With this in mind and with such awareness led to the preservation of the Philippine eagle by the Philippine Eagle Foundation. And it all started when they had gotten a female eagle which they symbolized as “Pag-asa” or Hope in other words. The male eagle is called “Pag-kakaisa”, symbolizing the unity of man and nature to make a breakthrough change in preserving the Philippine eagle.
