One of the great things about the Philippines is the breakfasts, I have a video here showing what to expect.

Breakfast in the Philippines is known as agahan or almusal, I think that the breakfasts are quite heavy, but very tasty, you can get breakfast from street hawkers in Manila and throughout the country such as rice porridge or noodle soups.

So whats in a traditional Philippines breakfast.

  • Rice ( of course) fried with salt and garlic clovess.
  • Fried or scrambled eggs.
  • Combined with some meat , which is also referred to as a tapa ( Spanish Influence in words), pork tocino ( sweet pork) Iongganisa ( fresh garlic sausage), I found the sausage to be very tasty but heavy ( can tire you down) smoked fish such as tayo, crispy pork adobo.
  • Also western style backed beans, sliced tomato and pickle,
  • Ensaymada cheese topped breakfast pastry.
  • Barako coffee.

Kids usually have the choice of cereal, pancakes, french toast or even porridge. Another option is the Jolibee breakfast, which is more like a meal, see from picture above, this is even more popular than Mac donalds in the Philippines, as it caters for the local tastes.

There is a local chocolaty porridge served too called champorado.usually served with sun dried fish.
