SLAPSHOCK

One of the pioneer bands in the rapmetal scene in the Philippines is none other than Slapshock. In 1998, the band signed a deal with one of the major recording labels in the country.

Slapshock started the introduction of heavy guitar riffs, brutal throbbing intersperse along with gut wrenching screams. As a whole, the band showed a derisive stance directed to the OPM (original pinoy music) mainstream while simultaneously wooing it at the same time.

After ten years in the business, a greatest hits album came about proving that the band’s hits and songs are definitely timeless; especially to rock lovers everywhere. This to the band signifies the closing of one chapter in their musical journey in the rock industry.

After a decade of head banging and hard rocking performances and gigs, this is a timely inauguration of a new beginning.

Their bassist Lee Nadela affirmed that their band was moving on to the next stage while acknowledging and celebrating Slapshock’s ten years of existence.

The band’s album Recollection is under EMI Records. It has brought together Slapshock’s best songs enduring the ordeal of the shifting music fads and craze.

Jamir Garcia, Slapshock’s frontman couldn’t agree more with Lee. He rationalized the importance of looking back and collecting songs that gave the band that distinct “Slapshock” definition to their fans and to the local music industry.

Jamir continued stating that the band wanted to set aside those songs that made the band “Slapshock”, what it is today; and then create a fresh new start for them and anticipate new challenges ahead.

“Recollection” seems to signal that this would be Slapshock’s final record with EMI. The band members’ desire to explore other options and opportunities are a major part of their plans for their band.

One such plan is their vision to infiltrate the international scene. This may not be such a hard feat for the band; for they have already expanded a huge cult following that has extended beyond Manila shores

All six albums of the band, namely 4th Degree Burn (1999), Head Trip (2001), Project 11/41 (2002), Back to the Two Inch (2003), Novena (2004) and Silence (2006) have become massive hits, both commercially and critically.

Slapshock is made up of Jamir Garcia (vocals), Lee Nadela (bass), Lean Ansing (guitars), Chi Evora (drums) and Jerry Basco (guitars).
